An American horror directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins and Gary Oldman.
We all know the Dracula story.
Another good one in a row. Also very easy to mock: Francis For Crappola made Shaft Stroker's Jackula. Casting was perfect on this. Unbeknownst in 1992 was the fact that the leading couple would be paired again in Destination Wedding (2018). I have generally believed that children from this fictional union would be great actors. Visual effects were great, camerawork and editing looked good. I'll stop. I rate this best Watch it!
In ancient Egyptian mythology, a dead person's soul would be weighed against the feather of truth in a ritual called a psychostasy. If their soul was lighter than the feather, it would ascend into the afterlife. Heavy souls were devoured by Maat, eater of the dead. Good films go to hard drive heaven while the recycle bin eats the rest.

Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991)
An American documentary directed by Fax Bahr, George Hickenlooper and Eleanor Coppola, starring Francis Ford Coppola.
Francis Ford Coppola is making Apocalypse Now.
This was extremely similar to other "making of" film documentaries that I've seen. Information density was a little bit sparse because (as always) there were problems while filming, the director was going nuts and the cast and crew were working too hard. Most of the narration came from the Coppola couple, with Francis being interviewed and Eleanor speaking about the filming years later. There was a good mix of interviews and on-set footage. All of the interviewees were filmed in different locations, which helped lots. The subject matter is kind of stale to me now and has lost it's original charm. The version that I watched was in 4:3 aspect ratio and it seemed like the bottom was cropped off even then. Lots of the "on-set making of" footage was very grainy and exposures were off in anything but the best sunlight conditions. Apparently, Eleanor Coppola did not have a cinematography team working for her like her husband did. Audio was a little bit low, but mixed correctly. IMDb lists a rating of 8.2/10 and Rotten Tomatoes lists 100% Tomatometer with 94% audience score for an average of 92%. I think that's a little bit high because of how many other films have similar documentaries about them. I rate this o.k.

Youth Without Youth (2007)
An American Romanian French Italian German fantasy drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
An old man is struck by lightning and becomes young again.
Upon completion of viewing Francis Ford Coppola's filmography, I have decided that I do not like him. Very few of his films were any good. Most were boring beyond the realms growing grass and drying paint. This one was no different. A few scenes were shot well and the premise seemed alright, but as a whole, it was dull. Overall, it barely held my attention. I rate this poor. Francis Ford Crappola sucks a fat one.

Twixt (2011)
An American horror thriller directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Val Kilmer.
An unsuccessful novelist visits a small town where he fights writer's block with local folklore, whiskey and sleeping pills.
This was lame. I wish I had looked up the lead actor before watching it because Madmartigan from Willow (1988) would have been fun to imagine. The plot was stale and characters stereotypical. Some of the scenes were shot well and there was some light special effects, but otherwise it was a bust. The main character irked me most of all. Overall, pretty crappy. I rate it bad.

The Rainmaker (1997)
An American courtroom drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Matt Damon, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Jon Voight, Mickey Rourke and Virginia Madsen.
A new lawyer takes a difficult case involving health insurance.
I don't like watching games of Lawyers & Lawsuits. The plot does not interest me and I don't care what happens to the characters. Everything made sense and the characters were acted decently. The camera-work was nothing to write home about and the slow pacing made this seem longer than it actually was. Overall, I was not interested. I rate this poor.

Rumble Fish (1983)
An American crime drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke, Nicolas Cage and Dennis Hopper.
A violent gang leader has a crazy brother who returns to town after a long absence and an alcoholic father.
This was alright, I guess. It was all in black and white except the Japanese fighting fish from the pet store. The plot seemed to go nowhere and the characters were static as fuck. The camera-work was AMAZING! They got some really good shots that were artsy and illustrated the scenes very well. Overall, a really good looking nothing. Hey, it was cool to watch, but lacked substance. I rate it adequate.

New York Stories (1989)
An American drama directed by Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, starring Mia Farrow and Nick Nolte.
3 stories happen in New York City. In the first, a painter breaks up with his girlfriend. The second concerns a rich and spoiled girl whose parents are away and in the third, a man's overbearing mother appears in the sky.
This was actually enjoyable. The plots followed the infamous UPO, but with 3 of them, it seemed better. The characters were all stereotypical and shallow, but I almost liked that about them. The pacing was just quick enough to keep things moving in all 3 sections. The only negative criticism that I have for this is that it was a little too hokey at times. I'm rating it good though. Watch this!

The Cotton Club (1984)
An American film noir directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Richard Gere, Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins, James Remar and Nicolas Cage.
The social drama of a group of people from night clubs in Harlem is shown. A low level Irish criminal gets a job to babysit the mob boss's wife and they fall in love.
Another boring FFC flick. I should just delete the whole batch. This one had song and dance numbers and seemed like a mostly white cast version of Idlewild (2006). The plot barely held any of my interest and I didn't care what happened to the characters. The female lead was good looking, but failed to earn anatomy points. The characters were generally acted fine and the film was well-made, had good production value and made sense. There were some scenes where I noticed good camera-work, but it bored me to distraction. Overall, I'm thinking that Coppola is not for folks who like Tarantino and Jodorowsky. I rate this poor.

Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)
An American drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Jeff Bridges, Martin Landau and Christian Slater.
A man designs a new car, but has trouble getting money to build a prototype. The prototype doesn't work right, but a friend helps to raise money and they end up having a factory that builds 50 cars. They run into legal troubles brought on by the major car companies who fear competition.
When I started watching this, I said "Who the fuck does this guy think he is?" The main character was that annoying. Turns out he has played some very different roles in other films. Jeff Bridges was "The Dude" from The Big Lebowski. Given that he is a great actor, I did not like him in this film and wanted to hurt him every time he said "hold that tiger". The plot was in line with the UPO and was about my least favorite subject in the world: cars. Some of the camera-work was good, but it was like taking a great picture of shit. Overall, I had trouble not turning this off. I rate it bad.

The Godfather (1972 - 1990)
An American crime drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, James Caan, Diane Keaton and Robert De Niro.
The only remaining son of a defeated mafia don in Italy escapes to America where he builds his own crime syndicate. His son takes over the family business and annihilates all competition.
This was the longest, most boring thing I have ever seen. Sure, there were momentary bursts of ultra-violence that shook things up every so often, but the bulk of the films consisted of talking. A few of the highlights include a man waking up with his prize horse's amputated head bleeding all over him in bed, multiple instances of tommy guns turning men to swiss cheese and a brutal knifing on a balcony. The little ditty that I composed to accompany this goes like: "They call me the widowmaker, my name is Michael Corleone, I have men killed for sport and pleasure, but selling drugs I do not condone". Seriously, everyone is killed. Overall, this consists of waiting far too long between action scenes. I rate it poor.

Peggy Sue Got Married (1986)
An American romantic drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Nicolas Cage.
A woman is at her high school reunion when she faints. She wakes up in high school and tries to have sex with all the guys.
This was crappy. The stupid plot and stereotypical characters made sure of this. Nicolas Cage plays a douche-bag yet again. There was a little bit of good camera-work though. Mostly timing shots for correct weather conditions and moon position. I don't feel the need to dwell on movies I don't like. I rate this bad.

Jack (1996)
An American comedy drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Robin Williams, Jennifer Lopez, Bill Cosby and Fran Drescher.
A baby boy is born 7 months premature because his internal clock is fast. By the time he is 10 years old, he seems to be in his 40s, but enters elementary school. There he makes friends that will literally last the rest of his life.
General issue Hollywood crap anyone? There were some '90s pop-culture references that I understood and the pacing was quick enough. A very few of the jokes were funny. Namely the fart jokes and eating mixtures of nasty stuff in the treehouse scene and Williams' seemingly innocent sexual innuendo when he posed as the principle. So what if I'm still entertained by fart jokes? Obviously, mainstream dramedies are not the place to showcase brilliant camera-work or deep dialogue. This was WAY more interesting to me than Gardens of Stone, but if you're looking for a really good film, keep looking. I rate this o.k. because it had a balance of immature humor and a shallow emptiness only found in mainstream Hollywood bullshit.

Gardens of Stone (1987)
An American drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring James Caan, Anjelica Huston and James Earl Jones.
Some soldiers work at the military cemetery in Washington, D.C. and have girlfriends.
This was dull as dirt. The plot was muddy and boring, which made it difficult to keep track of the characters. I didn't notice much good about this, but a note on the actors is warranted. Anjelica Huston was the Grand High Witch in Witches (1990). You'll remember my complaint about the main character's repetition of a certain word. James Earl Jones was not only Thulsa Doom from the first Conan film, but also Mufasa from The Lion King (1994). I have already determined that the year, 1987 held no magic barrier against bad movies, I will make this short. Overall, this was so boring that it failed to hold my attention. As I've seen far worse, I rate it bad. Do Not Watch!

The Terror A.K.A. Lady of the Shadows A.K.A. The Castle of Terror A.K.A. The Haunting (1963)
An American horror directed by Roger Corman, Francis Ford Coppola, Monte Hellman, Jack Hill and Jack Nicholson, starring Boris Karloff and Jack Nicholson.
A lost soldier happens upon an old castle. Drama that unfolded years ago still causes insanity in the residents. There is a young woman around who is supposed to be dead.
This was pretty bad. Not only that, but I remember watching it before. The intro looked really cool, but the rest of the film was horrid. Bad acting did not convey the constantly twisting plot very clearly. The camera-work was alright, with some good shots of spooky castle stuff. Apparently, Boris Karloff begged Roger Corman not to make this film. Roger should have listened. I rate it shit. It should not be watched by anyone under any circumstances. I will never forgive blogger for not letting me find it on my own site and tricking me into making the mistake of watching this a second time.

Dementia 13 A.K.A. The Haunted and the Hunted (1963)
An American horror thriller directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
After accidentally killing her husband by a stress-induced heart attack, the wife visits his family in an attempt to have herself written into her mother-in-law's will. It turns out that the family has dark secrets regarding the death of one of the siblings as a child.
Boring. The pace was so slow as to induce mental illness and the characters never developed in all that time. The simplistic plot didn't seem to merit an hour and 14 minutes. Being made in 1963, color film was available, but some really poor quality black and white was used instead. The audio was full of 1940s dead air hiss and the style seemed '40s to me. I was shocked when I read the date that this film was released. The only indication of the real date was a Guiness beer ad in the bar that wouldn't have been there in the '40s. There was a scene in which the main character stripped to her bra and underwear, nearly earning female anatomy points (picture). So we've got a boring film with maddeningly slow pace that looks 20 years older than it actually is. I rate it poor. You might want to skip this one.

The Conversation (1974)

A drama by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall and Harrison Ford.
A telephone spy does his job.
There was almost no plot and the characters were stereotypical. The stye was poor and so was the production value. It went by alright, so the pace was good. I'm rating it poor for being nothing but boring.

Apocalypse Now (1979)

A war film by Francis Ford Coppola.
A Vietnam veteran goes back into the jungle to eliminate a rogue soldier who has gone insane.
There is also a Redux version of this film. The version that I saw was 3 hours and 13 minutes. The original is just under 3 hours and Redux is over 3 and a half hours. This leaves me with the question: "What did I watch?". That confusion aside, the plot and characters were alright, but a little predictable by today's standards. I thought the style was good, but there was just too much "army guys in the jungle" for too long. Really, I got bored and wanted it to end. I'm rating it o.k. because it's good, but too long. Finding a decent picture was way difficult. I don't even like this one.

The Godfather series (1972, 1974 & 1990)

A crime film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Al Pacino.
A gangster family does gangster stuff.
This has to be the most boring film series ever made. I barely made it through the first one (this is after like 4 tries) and couldn't watch the whole second film. Obviously, I won't be watching the 3rd. The pacing is so slow it hurts and the style is bland. The characters are unidentifiable except for a select few. I have to rate this bad for trying to bore me to death.

Dracula (1992)

A horror by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves.
A Transylvanian immortal buys property in London and moves there. He tries to take a wealthy English woman for his bride, but her male guardians protect her.
This is a decent retelling of the Dracula story, but it is more based on the 1931 film than the book. The style and pacing were great, but there were so many inaccuracies from the book that I won't talk about characters or plot. Just based on what's there, I'm rating it good for entertainment value alone.

The Terror (1963)

A horror directed by Roger Corman, Francis Ford Coppola, Monte Hellman, Jack Hill and Jack Nicholson.
Jack Nicholson plays a French soldier who gets involved in a crisis between a ghost of a baroness, a servant, a baron and a witch.
The audio and video were some of the worst I've ever seen.
check out: The cartoon credits/intro images.
It was cool to see Jack Nicholson at 26 years of age, but otherwise the movie sucked pretty bad. Too many directors behind the camera is just like too many cooks in the kitchen.
