Heathers (1988)

An American black comedy directed by Michael Lehmann, starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.
A girl in a popular clique at high school is taught true human values by a homocidal maniac.
This is one of those movies that can be replayed in my brain without turning on the computer. It's a very popular movie and a very good movie. In fact, I don't want to spoil anything. One interesting not from my quick read of the Wikipedia page is that Winona Ryder said she looked like her character in Beetlejuice (1988) at the time of casting. If you haven't seen it, watch it now. I rate it best.

3000 Miles to Graceland (2001)

An American crime film directed by Demian Lichtenstein, starring Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner, Christian Slater, Kevin Pollak and David Arquette.
5 Elvis impersonators rob a casino. They fight amongst themselves until 2 are left. A single mother at a hotel with a thieving son falls in love with one and they leave. The other follows them, trying to get the money.
Starts strong and then dies. The plot held my attention for the first 34 minutes (the heist) and then became dull. The characters were predictable and uninteresting. Video looked exactly as one would expect a 2001 Hollywood film to look. I could hear all of the dialogue. There was some good Elvis music, but there was also rock music of the time, which was not so good. I rate it o.k. because it was mediocre.

Nymphomaniac A.K.A. NYMPH()MANIAC (2013)

A British Danish Belgian French German adventure directed by Lars von Trier, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willlem Dafoe and Udo Kier.
A man finds a woman injured and lying in an alley. He takes her to his apartment where she tells him about her life.
Beyond amazing. Camera-work and editing blew me away. The plot and characters held my attention the whole 5 and a half hours to the point that I wanted to watch it again as soon as it was done. Speaking of time, make sure to watch the longer version/director's cut. It's worthwhile. This film is not for the squeamish. If graphic depictions of sex and violence make you squeam, don't watch it. Also blasphemy, racism and foul language. More genitals crossed the screen than I'm used to, but that's o.k. for a movie this good. I can't think of anything that would improve this besides better audio editing, but that could be improved in most films. I rate this best. it's a keeper. Watch it!

Jimmy Hollywood (1994)

An American crime comedy written and directed by Barry Levinson, starring Joe Pesci, Christian Slater and Victoria Abril.
A failed actor in Hollywood has his car radio stolen. He is so angered by this that he enlists his buddy as a camera man to catch the thief. They do and deliver him to the police with car radios, the video tape and a poorly written note. The police believe that there is a gigantic vigilante gang because of the note and the failed actor takes on the role of the gang leader. Together with his camera man, they engage in more vigilante activities with video until the police catch on to them.
This started out foolish and hokey, but ended up being not so shabby. I initially hated Joe Pesci's character and thought that he was over-acting and horribly cast. As the plot went on, it became more clear and I liked it more. The video and audio were pretty standard for 1994. I think Levinson made better musical choices in the '90s than the 2000s. The ending made sense to me, but I won't spoil it. I noticed product placement on the Sony Watchman at 1:26:00 and that they ran past cleaning carts at 1:29:52. There was a repeated scene where the friends were sitting by the pool and the main character's phone would ring. He would always say "Is that my phone?" and his buddy would always tell him "No.". It was actually always his phone. Overall, a movie that develops as it goes. I rate it adequate. If it had been as strong at the beginning as at the end, it would get awesome or best.

Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)

An American drama directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Jeff Bridges, Martin Landau and Christian Slater.
A man designs a new car, but has trouble getting money to build a prototype. The prototype doesn't work right, but a friend helps to raise money and they end up having a factory that builds 50 cars. They run into legal troubles brought on by the major car companies who fear competition.
When I started watching this, I said "Who the fuck does this guy think he is?" The main character was that annoying. Turns out he has played some very different roles in other films. Jeff Bridges was "The Dude" from The Big Lebowski. Given that he is a great actor, I did not like him in this film and wanted to hurt him every time he said "hold that tiger". The plot was in line with the UPO and was about my least favorite subject in the world: cars. Some of the camera-work was good, but it was like taking a great picture of shit. Overall, I had trouble not turning this off. I rate it bad.

Very Bad Things (1998)

A black comedy directed by Peter Berg, starring Christian Slater and Cameron Diaz.
A group of friends celebrate a bachelor party in Las Vegas. They are having fun until one of them accidentally kills the stripper/prostitute.
This is one of the films that is mentioned when people talk about crazy and good movies. The plot, characters and production value are absolutely great. The film really comes off as unique and has it's own "flavor". The violence is not over-done and most of the tension is created through the plot. This is another film with mostly upset characters. Apparently, conflict (supposedly essential to plot) must be between the characters themselves. There are many types of conflict:
Character vs. Character (shown here)
Character vs. Self (shown here)
Character vs. Nature
Character vs. Society
Character vs. Supernatural
Character vs. Technology
Character vs. Destiny
I would really like to see some variety in this plot element, given the wide range of choices. However, a good film is a good film and I'm rating this awesome.

Hard Rain (1998)

An action film directed by Mikael Salomon, starring Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater.
An armored car is driving out of a small town as it is flooding. The car gets stuck and robbers show up looking for the money. They shoot the driver, but his partner gets away with the money.
This film has most of the standard action film traits like too much gunfire and poorly aimed shots. The camera work is too fast for my tastes. There is one thing that sets it apart from other films. Morgan Freeman is the villain. The style was alright and because of Freeman's role, it gets an adequate rating.

Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest (1992)

An animated fantasy directed by Bill Kroyer, starring Robin Williams, Christian Slater and Tim Curry.
A fairy lives in a rainforest and studies green magic. When humans come with machines to cut down the trees, they awaken an evil spirit that encourages them. The fairy shrinks one of the humans to her size and he visits her society. When the human's machine draws near in it's tree cutting duty, they fight it.
Avatar! This is where the plot came from. When I watched Avatar, I said "this is fern gully in CG!". The soundtrack was horrible, as it was mostly black people music performed by white people. I'm not racist, it's just that white people can't rap and black people sing the blues better. Let's face it, they invented that form of music so they must know how to do it the best. Overall, this was disappointing. I'm rating it poor because it's so '90s cheesy and I'm VERY surprised that it isn't made by Disney! If it was Disney, I would have hit the shite button.

alone in the dark (2005)

a science fiction directed by uwe boll
a detective is investigating a case involving the 20 children from the orphanage that he is from and the ancient native american civilization that left artifacts all over the world.
the overall quality was terrible. I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that I had just watched a "screener". the video was choppy and blurry. the audio was loud and distorted.
I don't mind christian slater, but this movie was bad. it was 80s sequel bad. I like cheesy things, but this was too cheesy. Christian Slater's narration was on the heavy side and I saw the sex scene coming a mile away. What really made me laugh was when the end credits started and I heard Nightwish playing "I Wish I Had an Angel". there are much better things to watch, so don't watch this.
