Kid Dynamite (1943)

An American crime drama directed by Wallace Fox.
A rivalry between gang members is started by a misunderstanding and gets coumpounded by each sequential event.
Whatever. I shouldn't even watch The East Side Kids anymore. Every film is the same, with stupid Muggs going berserk over trifles and the rest of the gang catering to his every whim, except Danny. Danny is the good boy who doesn't fall in line with gangsters, but with society and government instead. All the characters, plots, styles... You get the picture. This is the last one of these I'm watching. I rate it poor because I watched the whole thing painlessly. Not Recommended.

Bowery Blitzkrieg (1941)

An American crime drama directed by Wallace Fox.
East Side Kids #6. While police and gangsters surround the lives of a group of young men in New York City, one of them tries to be a prize fighting boxer.
I thought the plot was minimal and most of the film turned out to be filler. There were also too many characters, which were necessitated by all of the filler sub-plots, but had no impact on the actual storyline. The style was very similar to the original East Side Kids film and the pacing was just as quick. The audio had some muffled sections and the video was a little blurry at spots, but I could hear and see everything that was going on. I rate this poor because it was alright technically, but I didn't really like it and thought there was too much filler. The original East Side Kids was much better and if you're interested in this kind of film, that is the one to watch.

East Side Kids (1940)

An American crime drama directed by Robert F. Hill.
A young gang member's brother is in jail and sentenced to be executed for a crime that he did not commit. A cop tries to put together a club to keep kids off the street and real gangsters are around running a counterfeit money scheme.
The plot was complex and there were lots of characters. Some of the characters turned out to be lying and had hidden agendas. The pace was quick and the style was very '40s. I think that it was made alright, but I just didn't really like it. I know I've seen gangsters and cops with a boys' club before. I'm rating this o.k. You can make up your own mind whether to watch it or not.

The Devil's Party (1938)

An American crime drama directed by Ray McCarey, starring Victor McLaglen.
A gang of children grow up in New York City. One of them is caught setting fire to a warehouse as a child and gets into criminal activities as an adult. Some of his fellow gang members grow up to be police. When a man dies and it looks like murder, the police are called in and the gangster turns out to be involved.
The audio, video and style are very old-fashioned now, but were standard at the time this was made. This makes the film seem very dated. The plot and characters were mildly interesting and I was able to follow the story through the whole duration. Conflict involving cops and gangsters is generally overused and did not do anything to help this film stand out to me. Overall, it's an old movie about childhood friendships being broken by concerns in the adult world. I rate it poor.

Port of New York (1949)

An American film noir crime drama propaganda directed by Laszlo Benedek, starring Yul Brynner.
The narrator says that top government agents must stop the influx of drugs to our country by finding the men responsible for a stolen shipment of opium.
It says in the beginning that the aforementioned drugs were being shipped in for research legally. It then goes on about how harmful the drugs are and how no good can come of them. Then why research them? Then these top level (and probably top paid) dudes spend tons of time tracking down the guys who stole the fun stuff so more money can be spent by keeping them in jail for an even longer time. All on your tax dollars. I thought that the film was propaganda with a thin plot and some forgettable characters. The style wasn't very good and the thing of having some parts narrated and some parts not was not the best idea. I rate it poor because it didn't cause discomfort and it gave me something to write about.

My Boys Are Good Boys (1978)

An American crime drama directed by Bethel Buckalew.
A group of boys in a juvenile institution plan and execute the robbery of an armored car.
The opening theme song was extremely bad. They took what should have been a folk song and added overpowering synthesizers to it. The characters and most of the plot were indicative of a style that would typify the early '80s in comedy and adventure films. For most of the duration, I thought the plot was going alright and liked the style and characters. When the film came to an end, I was shocked by the inconclusiveness. Most of the subject matter in the plot was left hanging and what seemed to be minor plot elements finished the film. I'm rating this o.k. because of the ending. If it had ended more conclusively, it would have gotten adequate or better.

Jail Bait (1954)

An American crime drama directed by Ed Wood, starring Steve Reeves.
A small time criminal who is the son of a plastic surgeon and his gangster partner rob a theater, killing the night watchman and wounding a woman. The gangster kills the surgeon's son to protect himself and orders the surgeon to change his face so he can get away.
I actually thought this was pretty good. The plot was interesting and I liked the ending. The style was typical of the time period, but good and almost gave off a Twilight Zone vibe. On the negative side, the characters were extremely shallow. The production was also sub-par (come on, 1954? You expecting CG in HD?). Anyway, I'm rating it adequate because I think it's worth watching.

Ninja Champion (1985)

A Chinese kung fu crime drama written and directed by Godfrey Ho.
A woman hunts down the 3 men who raped her and her ex-husband gets involved while a group of ninjas watch and wait for the right time to attack them.
Holy muddy plots, Batman! This thing sucked the big one, but I don't care because as soon as I saw the words "Godfrey Ho" cross my screen, I busied myself with writing guitar parts and barely paid any attention to the movie. Why is it that there are European/American ninjas in these Chinese flicks? Reality check on line #1 for Godfrey Ho: Ninjas are Japanese. Static characters, no style, at least I could see what was going on, blah blah blah. I'm rating it poor.

Seven Dead Men (2009)

A crime drama by Brett Koonce.
pairs of people in seemingly unrelated situations turn out to all be involved in the same crime deal.
BORING! The plot was generally hidden and the characters were involved in such mundane tasks. The production value was like a porno without the music. I'm rating this bad.

Another Day in Paradise (1998)

A crime drama directed by Larry Clark, starring James Woods.
An older drug dealing couple team up with a younger drug doing couple to execute some robberies.
The characters and plot were good, but the pacing was off. The visual style was also not to my taste, as it relied too heavily on warm colors. There was a lot of blues and country-based music throughout the film. I'm rating it adequate because it should have been better, but as is, it wasn't bad.

Catch Me If You Can (2002)

A crime drama directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Christopher Walken and Ton Hanks.
A teenage boy forges checks and pretends to be a substitute French teacher, airline pilot, doctor and a lawyer. An FBI fraud agent tracks and tries to catch him.
Christopher Walken detracted from this movie immensely, just by showing his face on screen. I was ready to turn it off and declare shite after about 5 minutes of Walken beast terror. Luckily, he left the screen and made only short appearances afterward. The plot was almost interesting, but the characters seemed like glorified extras despite being big names. I'm rating it poor for being mass produced Hollywood bullshit.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009)

A crime drama by J Blakeson.
2 men kidnap a girl and force her father to give them money for her release. When one of them reveals his identity, things get complicated.
This movie is very good on first watch. The plot, setting and characters are up to par. The guys seem to be in league with eachother, but as the plot develops, it turns out that they are not. I'm rating it good, so watch it.

Rockers (1978)

A crime drama directed by Theodoros Bafaloukos.
A poor man gets money from friends to buy a motorcycle so he can distribute records. The motorcycle gets stolen and the man gathers more friends to play "Robin Hood" with.
The plot of this film is great and I really like the main character and the music. Some of the dialogue is hard to follow because of the Jamaican slang that the people use, but this doesn't detract from the film. I don't go around giving "best" reviews to just any flick, so I really mean it when I rate this best.

A Perfect World (1993)

A crime drama directed by Clint Eastwood.
A man who breaks out of jail takes a young boy as a hostage/partner in crime.
This film is from what I would call "the golden years of American cinema". The late 80s and early 90s had a lot of good movies! I noticed that every family that the traveling pair crosses paths with abused their children, while the relationship between the criminal and innocent child remained peaceful. I'm rating this one good because I really enjoyed watching it.

Ghetto Stories (2010)

A crime drama directed by John McDougal and Turk.
A druglord's nephews inherit his wealth, his clientele and his enemy.
There are 2 ways to look at this film. The first is a bunch of black people being black, speaking ebonics, etc. The second is that it's a crime flick about new guys moving through the ranks. I like the second way better. The detailed instructions on preparing the drugs was a nice touch. I also liked the scene right after the nephews start working for the enemy. Their shopping is legendary. There is something deep within me that thinks the whole hip-hop fashion thing is cool. The black bandana clad murder scene was brutal and I can't help but think that these guys had fun making the film. Overall, it was pretty good. Not the type of thing that I usually go for, but it feels good to give a good review after so many bad ones.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)

A crime drama directed by Sidney Lumet.
2 brothers plan to rob their parents' jewelery store, but everything goes wrong when they send the wrong guy in to do the job.
This is a very tragic film. Everyone's lives go from bad to worse and nearly everyone gets shot. Usually in heist flicks, someone gets away with all the wealth and lives happily ever after, but not in this one. Overall, it's o.k.

Scarface (1932)

A crime drama directed by Howard Hawks.
A gangster rises through the ranks of a crime syndicate and abusively tries to keep his sister out of trouble.
This is a rare case of the remake being about as good as the original. I had already seen the Al Pacino film when I watched this, so I was comparing all the way through. This one has that irreplaceable early gangster flick rawness to it where the later film has better production value. My favorite part was when Tony discovers the machine gun and the montage of drive-by shootings occurs. I'm rating it adequate and worthy because of the primitive method in which it was presented, but still having a good plot.

The Watcher (2000)

A crime drama directed by Joe Charbanic.
A serial killer who dispatches young women with piano string is followed by "Captain Barbituate", the detective. The killer sends a picture of his next victim to the detective and the whole police force organizes to find her before 9pm.
The audio and video were good.
check out: Keanu Reeves playing a villain.
This is the same old cops and criminals story. It's like they have a form for creating these things. I'm saying o.k. because I liked seeing Keanu as the bad guy. His dancing, however, is sub-par.

the untouchables (1987)

a crime drama directed by brian de palma
this movie is based on a tv series from 1959 which was based on eliot ness' account of catching the big time gangster, al capone. al capone was smuggling illegal liquor and the cops on mr. ness' team went out to catch capone and his men.
somehow 1980s movies seem to look and sound best to me. it must be that at that time, they had enough technology to get good quality, but not so much that they used the infamous "whisper-blast" technique.
I've seen too many gangster movies. everyone knows that goodfellas and casino are WAY better than any other gangster flick. this one was ok. the stroller scene was pretty good. the cop was helping a woman with a baby in a stroller up a set of stairs. this is when the gangsters show up and all hell breaks loose. if you like gangster movies and haven't seen this, it may be worth watching. the title reminds me of the nostradameus song. unfortunately, I can't find this song anywhere in the world wide webiverse.

harsh times (2005)

a crime drama directed by david ayer
some good old boys spread trouble wherever they go. they're supposed to be looking for jobs, but instead they decide to drink beer, smoke pot, and steal drugs and guns. one of them has a fight with his girlfriend and the next day they both get jobs. the army boy gets a job in colombia but doesn't tell anyone that important detail. they decide to celebrate in mexico after they stop at the girlfriend's house to make everything alright. they manage to screw that up and cross the border. in mexico, they visit the other guy's girlfriend and her family and find out that she is pregnant. this is where everything goes wrong and plot spoilers would be told.
the audio and video were both good.
this one was pretty wild! these guys really fuck everything up. definitely worth watching.
