Pecker (1998)

An American comedy written and directed by John Waters, starring Edward Furlong, Christina Ricci, Mary Kay Place, Martha Plimpton, Brendan Sexton III, Mink Stole and Lili Taylor.
A young photographer in Baltimore Maryland is discovered by a New York City art dealer. His show is a success, but it causes problems for his friends and family because the photos provide a deep view into their lives.
I had gotten so tired of the "high art" films with hidden meanings and lofty ideals. It's good to watch a plain American comedy after all of that snobbishness. The plot held my attention very well and the characters were interesting. I even thought some parts were funny. A good example is the clothing store woman catching the photographer and shoplifter pair and forcing a "pecker picture". I rate this good because it's a very sincere and unpretentious comedy. I recommend it if you have gotten into a similar situation with watching films like I have.

Cursed (2005)

An American horror comedy directed by Wes Craven, starring Christina Ricci and Jesse Eisenberg.
A brother and sister get into a car accident and when they go to help the other driver, they are bitten by a werewolf.
This was not too shabby. I will no longer be addressing plot unless it differs from The Universal Plot Outline. The characters were mostly acted well, although I got the feeling that some type-casting went into this. The werewolf entered view at just the right time and made enough appearances. There were also some transformations that looked alright. The pacing and editing were a little bit quick and there was lots of camera movement, but what do you expect from 2005? A few of the scenes were on the dark side, but most of it was correctly exposed. The humor had it's moments, but was generally down-played. Overall, it's a decent horror flick in the same vein as the '80s horror that earned Wes Craven his claim to fame. Although not as good as the Freddy series, you probably won't regret watching this too much. I rate it adequate.

Monster (2003)

A crime biography directed by Patty Jenkins, starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci.
A homeless prostitute meets a new friend at a bar and they form a close relationship. The friend leaves her family for the prostitute and they try to live together in poverty. The call girl gives up whoring and decides to kill the men who pick her up instead.
This is a must see. The plot and characters are great. It's not nearly as over-produced as most 2000s films and the style was alright. Overall, I rate it good.

Black Snake Moan (2006)

A drama directed by Craig Brewer, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci and Justin Timberlake.
A black farmer finds an almost dead slut on the side of the road and nurses her back to health. Her boyfriend, who has joined the army, but has left goes looking for her.
I liked the extremity of the situation and how the farmer had to keep the girl chained to his radiator. The plot and characters were alright, but not anything that I would call good. The style was standard for 2000s films. I have to again rate a film adequate because there wasn't anything wrong, but I didn't think it earned a good rating.
