An American crime film directed by Walter Hill, strring Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy.
Loose cannon cop, Nick Nolte rents criminal, Eddie Murphy from jail to catch other criminals.
Mediocrity... The plot was tired and stale by the 1970s. Casting stars as the cop buddies did not help much, but I like those 2 actors. Wikipedia says it might be the first "buddy cop" movie, but I find that difficult to believe. A memorable scene involved Eddie Murphy bullying a country bar full of rednecks, pretending that he was a cop "experience my bullshit". Video looked '70s and the audio was midrange-biased, exaggerating Nick Nolte's gravelly voice. There's really not much to write about a film like this. I rate it o.k.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, a dead person's soul would be weighed against the feather of truth in a ritual called a psychostasy. If their soul was lighter than the feather, it would ascend into the afterlife. Heavy souls were devoured by Maat, eater of the dead. Good films go to hard drive heaven while the recycle bin eats the rest.

Last Man Standing (1996)

An American film noir western by Walter Hill, starring Bruce Willis and Christopher Walken.
The plot of Yojimbo is played out on the Mexican border. A man comes into town and finds two gangs in conflict. He takes employment with both of them and increases the conflict until they destroy each other.
I liked the original more and I rated that o.k., so how does this one rate? Bruce Willis and Christopher Walken are obviously not my favorite actors. The film was remade into something weird and not so great. The main character is obviously not a gunslinger because it takes him like 8 shots to kill a man. He even has 2 guns! He has obviously forgotten the face of his father. All points against it. I'm rating it bad because I can be a hard-ass like that when the mood strikes me.

Supernova (2000)

A science fiction directed by Walter Hill.
A space rescue ship picks up a man from a moon that was used for mining and an object that the man carried in his ship. The unknown object has imparted super powers on the man and he turns against the crew of the ship that picked him up.
Do I have to review this? (whining) Everything was mediocre. I couldn't find anything that sets this film apart from others on the good or bad side. On the bad side to me is that it's so mediocre. So mediocre that I'm rating it bad. I would love to rip on it all day, but there is nothing to rip on. Film gets bad review for mediocrity: hard ass all the way, baby!

Crossroads (1986)

A drama directed by Walter Hill, starring Ralph Macchio and Steve Vai.
A young guitarist helps an old blues man to break out of a nursing home and they go to Mississippi together on the premise that the old man will teach the boy a special song when they get there.
Most of this film was just mediocre '80s cheese, but the music was pretty good. There is a guitar duel in the end that I have my doubts about. In most of the shots it looks like the guys are actually playing, but there are some that looked a little sketchy. I looked it up, and apparently everything is supposed to be real. I still have doubts because of hearing shred, but not seeing fingers moving, although Steve Vai shouldn't have to cheat a solo. The outcome of the duel was OBVIOUSLY staged, as Ralph Macchio had just learned to play guitar for this film and Steve Vai was already famous. I'm rating this good.
