Reach Me (2014)

An American drama directed by John Herzfeld, starring Sylvester Stallone, Kyra Sedgwick, Thomas Jane, Danny Trejo, Cary Elwes, etc...
A man has written a best-selling self help book, but does not want any recognition for it. Lots of people find the book: gangsters, an ex-convict fashion designer, a man who wants to quit smoking, etc...
Trash. Modern trash is different from 1960s - 1990s Italian, Japanese and American trash. Modern trash looks slick and has lots of big name actors, but it's still trash. They all have terrible plots (if any) and far too many undeveloped characters. Budgets may be the problem, but I've seen good films that were made for very little money. I think it's down to writing. If you have a bad script, you have a bad movie. The difference here is that nobody in the future will watch this for quaint ideas about space travel or poorly produced monster effects. I rate it shit because I should never have even begun to watch it, let alone setting a point to turn it off.

Oscar (1991)

An American comedy directed by John Landis, starring Sylvester Stallone, Marisa Tomei, Ornella Muti, Tim Curry and Chazz Palminteri.
A mobster promises his dying father that he will "go straight" and find a legal job. On the day that he will be accepting a banking position, the police and another gang are watching his house. There are multiple mix-ups with suitcases and people who want to marry each other. This prompts the cops and other mobsters into action.
I normally don't like comedies, but this was alright. Maybe I've been watching too much overly-serious stuff recently. The plot was repetitive, but the humor was decent. The characters were stereotypical and shallow, but Stallone played a good gangster. Tim Curry's English teacher role was amazing! I also liked the tailors. The audio and video style was of the times. I liked the thug emptying weapons from his pocket and how the underwear bag always appeared at the correct times. Overall, a standard comedy that made me laugh a little. I rate it adequate.

Death Race 2000 (1975)

An action film directed by Paul Bartel, starring David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone.
In an annual road race, competitors try to get to the finish line first while killing as many pedestrians as possible. A group of rebels sets out to sabotage this race.
Carradine just reeks of awesome and Stallone adds his unique style to make the characters great. The plot was a little cheesy, but relevant to the way the world works these days. The women's breasts were absolutely fantastic! Giant jugs and no mosquito bites. The pace was as fast as the cars were supposed to be driving. I'm rating this o.k. because despite all of these factors, it wasn't fun to watch. The style was shallow and the production value sucked.

Burn Hollywood Burn (1997)

A mockumentary directed by Arthur Hiller, starring Whoopi Goldberg, Jackie Chan, Sylvester Stallone and Coolio.
A director gets his first directing job and the film is mishandled without his consent. It turns out bad, so he steals it to keep his name from being associated with it.
Wikipedia bills this as the worst film ever, but it's actually ABOUT the worst film ever. When the characters are introduced, the screen pauses and character profile lists come up, detailing the person. Some of the attributes are funny. I also thought the 3 celebrities chosen for the film within the film make a funny team. I'm rating this o.k.

Assassins (1995)

An action film directed by Richard Donner, starring Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas.
After killing a co-worker 15 years ago, an assassin finds that he has competition when he gets sent on jobs. The 2 competing assassins get sent on the same mission to get a disk and the one who killed the co-worker ends up befriending the woman with the disk.
I usually like Stallone films, but this was too "new action flick" for me. I think what puts me off is the overly excessive use of guns and the lack of style in the film as a whole. The plot was alright (I guess), but the pacing was just too quick. I'm rating this poor for being a new action flick.

Over the Top (1987)

An adventure directed by Menahem Golan, starring Sylvester Stallone.
A trucker who competes in arm wrestling competitions sees his son for the first time when he picks the child up from a military academy. They drive across the country to see the sick mother and have disagreements about custody with the grandfather. The trucker also competes in the world championship of arm wrestling.
Leave it to Stallone. In this film, he's the "Rocky" of arm wrestling. The final conflict is drawn out for extra suspense and to get the audience cheering at the screen. It has that late '80s style that I like so much and the pacing is perfect. Call me a softy, but I like '80s Stallone flicks. I'm rating it good.

Cobra (1986)

An action film directed by George P. Cosmatos, starring Sylvester Stallone.
A specialist police worker fights a group of criminals and protects a woman that they want to kill.
Sylvester Stallone is cool and was especially cool in the 80s. The movie was a little run of the mill and average, so I'm rating it adequate.

Rocky series (1976 - 2006)

Action films directed by John G. Avildsen and Sylvester Stallone.
A boxer is constantly being challenged in the ring, in training and in his life with family members.
These films were made in order with the best coming first, followed by a long slow decline in quality. The soundtrack is one of the least creative things I've ever heard as it includes mainly the same song in every movie. The Rocky and Paulie characters are developed very well while all others are left to rot. I'm rating the series o.k. and if you like this, check out Rambo.

Rambo series (1982 - 2008)

Action films directed by Ted Kotcheff, George P. Cosmatos, Peter MacDonald and Sylvester Stallone.
A Vietnam veteran is forced into intense combat situations on tight schedules.
The main elements of this film series are explosions, gunfire, blood and the military. If you like action packed movies in which combat and violence play a central role, watch this. I'm rating it good because it delivers EXACTLY what it promises. KABLASTO!!!!
