An American crime drama directed by Werner Herzog, starring Nicolas Cage, Jennifer Coolidge, Val Kilmer, Brad Dourif and Fairuza Balk.
A crooked cop is into gambling, prostitution and drugs.
This was alright I guess. The main character was played well. Nicolas Cage gave a great performance by acting like he's on drugs all the time and screwing over everyone he meets. It seems that he plays negative characters best. The plot was all over the place and things didn't really seem connected. The technical aspects were decent. What impressed me most was a shot of an iguana (picture). The iguana scene was overly long and edited in a psychedelic manner, with lots of similar camera angles. Overall, crooked cop is crooked. I rate this poor for being so disjointed.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, a dead person's soul would be weighed against the feather of truth in a ritual called a psychostasy. If their soul was lighter than the feather, it would ascend into the afterlife. Heavy souls were devoured by Maat, eater of the dead. Good films go to hard drive heaven while the recycle bin eats the rest.

Almost Famous (2000)
A drama by Cameron Crowe, starring Fairuza Balk.
A young journalist travels with a rock band while writing a story about them.
Why did I list this film as starring a very minor character? Because it's Fairuza Balk, of course! Theplot and characters are good and I liked the style. The pace was quick, but the film was still very long (almost 3 hours). The soundtrack is made up of classic rock like one would find on a radio station, with bits of the fictional band mixed in. I had seen bits and pieces of this before, but never the whole thing. I'm rating this good because I just like it.

The Craft (1996)

A fantasy directed by Andrew Fleming, starring Fairuza Balk.
A girl moves to a new town and becomes the fourth member of a coven of witches. They gain witch-power together, but then things go wrong.
This is a chick flick, but I like it anyway. An odd coincidence that I noticed was Fairuza talking about the power of serpents and "the craft" being a slang term for freemasonry. If you follow said subjects, they are closely intertwined. Their "god", Menon's name sounds very similar to the pronunciation of the french word "maintenant", meaning "now". An eerier coincidence than the serpent-craft one, considering that the characters are shown in French class. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. The style, plot and characters fit together very well and the pacing was good too. The soundtrack was horrible: alternative rock! I'm rating this good because I like it for entertainment value and because of the occult subjects it brings up.

The Worst Witch (1986)

A fantasy starring Fairuza Balk and Tim Curry
An inept witch at a witchcraft school turns out to be a better witch than she seems.
This is a film that my sister used to watch all the time. The plot and characters are uber-cheesy, as per '80s regulations and the style is good (also per regulations). Tim Curry plays a fitting role and Fairuza Balk goes on to star in The Craft, how fitting! I'm rating this good because it's '80s cheese that's so bad it's good.

American History X (1998)

A drama directed by Tony Kaye, starring Edward Furlong.
A young man's racist father is killed by a black man and the son starts an neo-nazi gang. The younger brother idolizes his older sibling even after he kills 2 men and goes to jail. While in jail, the older brother changes his opinion on some matters and when he gets out, he is dismayed to find that his younger brother still holds the same view on these issues.
This movie is absolutely epic. Some of it is told in flash-backs which are in black and white, while the present is in color. This movie includes Fairuza Balk as Derek's girlfriend, who I think is hot partially because she looks like my first girlfriend. The plot and characters are the main attraction here and the awesome style is just there to back them up. I'm rating this awesome.
