Robots (2005)

An American Animated comedy adventure directed by Chris Wedge, starring Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Greg Kinnear, Mel Brooks and Robin Williams.
A robot from a small town goes to the big city, hoping to get a job working for a company he has seen on TV. He gets there to find that the company has been taken over by the villain.
I'm pretty sure this is some vapid entertainment. It is entertaining and animated well. Robin Williams was always a great addition to comedy. I think Roger Ebert correctly stated ""Robots delights on a visual level, but the story feels like it came off an assembly line." Tom Waits did the villain's mother's "Underground" song. IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes have scores around 50-60%. I guess I liked it at some point because it's been sitting on my computer for years. I rate it adequate and really wish there was some hidden meaning or symbolism to type about.

Eye of the Beholder (1999)

A Canadian Australian British mystery directed by Stephan Elliott, starring Ewan McGregor and Genevieve Bujold.
A man who has an imaginary daughter is trying to follow a woman. He video calls another woman at some type of office frequently.
The real mystery here was the plot. It seemed like just a jumbled series of scenes, rather than a coherent story. The female lead was always dressing differently and wearing different wigs, so I had real trouble identifying her. There was some whisper acting... At least the camera-work was good. When that's all I can say in praise of a film, you know it's really bad. I rate this shit because I spent the entire duration wishing I was not watching it. DO NOT WATCH!!!

Shallow Grave (1994)

A British crime horror directed by Danny Boyle, starring Kerry Fox and Ewan McGregor.
A trio of roommates have their new fourth renter die. In his room, they find a suitcase full of money. They bury him and sink his car, but criminals are after his money. The roommates also begin to quarrel over the money.
This was an odd film. It started off like a comedy, but got dark and dangerous as it went. The plot definitely held my attention. The characters were written and acted well, except for Kerry Fox. It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode in which Jerry and George are having trouble writing for Elaine in their TV pilot. The audio and video were expertly done. The re-occurring spin shot of David was strange until the end, when we find out why his head is on a white background. The opening narration by Ewan McGregor reminded me of Trainspotting for a very good reason. Overall, weird British cinema that Americans can understand. I rate this good. You should probably watch it.
