An American comedy drama directed by Barry Levinson, starring Robert De Niro, Sean Penn, Catherine Keener, John Turturro and Bruce Willis.
A film producer has problems with his divorced wife, a film with a shocking ending and an actor who refuses to shave.
This was no good at all. The plot seemed pointless and the characters were despicable. The only redeeming qualities were the fictional film's shocking ending, the audience's reaction and the crazy, british editor. The audio and video were run of the mill normal. Overall, it's not worth watching. I rate it bad.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, a dead person's soul would be weighed against the feather of truth in a ritual called a psychostasy. If their soul was lighter than the feather, it would ascend into the afterlife. Heavy souls were devoured by Maat, eater of the dead. Good films go to hard drive heaven while the recycle bin eats the rest.

21 Grams (2003)

A drama directed by Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu, starring Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio Del Toro.
The lives of seemingly unrelated characters intertwine as a man kills a husband and his daughters in a car accident and the husband's heart is transplanted into a man who falls in love with the widowed wife.
This is a prime example of non-linear plot. This film element is over-used to the point where the story almost doesn't make sense. I had a hard time figuring out WHEN some scenes were taking place, as nothing was in any sort of logical pattern. Aside from that, the plot is decent and the characters are developed well. Obviously, the style and pacing are all fucked up. I'm rating this poor because of the non-linear plot. If it were in order, it would probably get a good rating.

Dead Man Walking (1995)

A drama by Tim Robbins, starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn.
A man is on death row because he killed teenagers and a nun is sent in to talk to him. They become friends and everyone outside the issue hates the nun for this and wants the death penalty for the killer.
I got about an hour into this and had to turn it off because the pace was too slow and it was too boring. I have a high tolerance for film quirks, so when I have to turn something off, it's really bad. Hence, I'm rating this shit.

Bad Boys (1983)

A crime film directed by Rick Rosenthal, starring Sean Penn.
A young man is sent to juvenile prison because he ran over a fellow criminal's brother while being pursued by the cops. He beats up the lead prisoners and takes their place with his cellmate. They try to escape after he hears that an enemy raped his girlfriend and he makes it all the way to her home before being captured. The enemy whose brother he killed and who raped his girlfriend is then sentenced to a prison stay in the same dormitory.
Sean Penn plays the opposite role in this film from what he did in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He's quiet and serious as opposed to jovial and talkative. The characters in this were good and the plot kept me interested. The style was necessarily dark. I'm rating it good.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)

A comedy directed by Amy Heckerling, starring Sean Penn.
Students at a high school work part-time jobs, have sex and get stoned.
Ah, more classic '80s cheese. I possibly can't get enough of it. This film is very dated and shows typical teenagers doing what typical teenagers do best. The characters are very good and the style works very well. The convoluted plot was necessary to show all of the aspects of teenage life. It comes from the same year that Iron Maiden released Number of the Beast and Slayer released their only good album, Show No Mercy. I'm rating this good for being an '80s classic.

Colors (1988)

A crime film directed by Dennis Hopper, starring Sean Penn and Robert Duvall.
A young cop and an old cop patrol the streets of east LA and try to stop gangs.
This film is a different perspective from gang films that I've watched before. I was always seeing it from the gangsters' side, and not the cops'. The music was terrible as it consisted of drumming with slow raps. The characters developed, but the plot was uninteresting. The acting was absolutely horrible. I'm rating it bad because I didn't like it.

into the wild (2007)

an adventure directed by sean penn
chris graduates from college and decides to escape from society. he gets rid of his car, money and identification cards. he vagabonds his way through the country for a while, bouncing from state to state as he may before he makes his way to alaska.
the audio and video were good. audio levels were reasonable and the film is new, so it must have good video. subtitles were included, but not absolutely necessary.
I like movies about mountain men. vicarious independence and living on the land are cool things. I won't spoil the ending, but it sucked and was the only thing I didn't like about this film. I'm glad I watched it, but I'm also glad I didn't pay for it.
