Repulsion (1965)

A British thriller directed by Roman Polanski, starring Catherine Deneuve.
A young woman is afraid of everything, including cracks in the wall. She tries to date a man, but just can't make it work.
This was terrible and boring. I've been working from a list of the "scariest films ever made" and it never ceases to disappoint me. The plot was threadbare and vacant. The characters were not developed at all. The video was alright, if filming this girl being afraid of nothing counts as anything. The most memorable scene was hands coming out of the wall to feel the main character's boobs. The audio was in english and there were no odd noises. Overall, not worth watching. I rate this bad. DO NOT WATCH!!!

The Ninth Gate (1999)

A thriller directed by Roman Polanski, starring Johnny Depp.
A rare book collector investigates whether a book that a client has is real or a forgery. As he journeys and researches, he finds that each of the 3 copies of the book has 3 of nine original illustrations. Together, they can be used to summon the devil.
The occult ideas implied by this film are interesting, but the film itself is dull. Johnny Depp is meant to play much more interesting roles than this. The plot barely goes anywhere, despite the vast journeys of the main character (who is totally static, by the way). That's enough about this. It gets a bad rating.

Death and the Maiden (1994)

A thriller directed by Roman Polanski.
A woman who was tortured finds that her husband has invited her tormentor into their house. She takes off and when the men fall asleep, she comes back and begins interrogating the guest.
The audio and video were good.
This whole film takes place over the course of 1 night and it accumulates back-story as it goes. Also, we are forced to question the back-story that develops due to the woman's mental condition. For a good plot and Sigourney Weaver in a strong role, I give this a good rating.

Chinatown (1974)

A mystery directed by Roman Polanski.
A private detective investigates a woman's husband to see if he is having an affair. When the man that he is following dies, he continues to investigate an increasingly tangled web of deceit.
The video was good, but the audio was in whisper-blast.
check out: the brutal nose injury sustained by Jack Nicholson.
We might as well call this an unsolved mystery because I was still confused by it at the end. Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors though, so I wasn't too bothered that I couldn't figure out some of the plot. This movie is o.k.
