Gravity (2013)

A British American science fiction directed by Alfonso Cuaron, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
A space mission goes horribly wrong for every reason. The only survivor of the first disaster runs into yet more problems as she attempts to return to Earth.
The main things that I want to mention are pacing and special effects. The pacing was painfully slow to the point that even the worst disasters generated no plot tension. The special effects were pretty amazing. We had zero gravity scenes and giant spaceships with little astronauts constantly bumping into them. Lots of it was visually stunning and would have been better in a 3D theater. Wikipedia says that people liked it lots and it won tons of awards. Apparently, everyone besides me liked it. Big stars and pretty images just don't do it for me anymore. I rate this bad because I wanted to turn it off for most of the duration.

Children of Men (2006)

A science fiction directed by Alfonso Cuaron, starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine.
In a post-apocalyptic future, nobody has been able to have children for over 18 years. A man's ex-wife asks him to escort the first pregnant woman in years to safety.
This was a very dark film. The style conveyed the plot very well. It's a film that is years ahead of it's time, meaning that this is a possibility in the future. Why? Bisphenol A is a chemical that is used in the manufacture of food and beverage containers, money, receipt paper and ink, cosmetics and clothing. It leads to higher risks of getting cancer and it damages hormones. Some people say that it could cause infertility. Suddenly science fiction just becomes the future, as always. I'm rating this film good because I think that it was made very well and has a pertinent theme.

Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001)

A drama by Alfonso Cuaron.
A pair of friends take an older woman on a road trip to a beach.
Everything starts off really cool and the characters are having fun going to an unknown beach. They bring beer and stop at hotels on the way, but by the end of the journey, they hate eachother. I thought the plot and characters were good and liked the narration filling in back-story as appropriate. I didn't mind the subtitles, because I almost know Spanish and could kind of figure out what they were talking about anyway. I'm rating this adequate (which is happening a lot these days).
