A horror directed by Alexandre Aja.A pair of young women on break from school stay at one of their parents' houses. During the night, a serial killer enters, slays the parents and kidnaps the girl. The other girl follows from safe hiding places, trying to rescue her friend. This film has a very inconclusive ending that brings up questions about who the characters really are. I won't spoil it here because I'm not sure if I completely understand it myself. The style is very dark, as is the setting (it all happens at night). This picture is being used because it depicts the coolest weapon in the film, a stake wrapped in barbed wire. Fuck the concrete saw, this is way more brutal! If you like gory and intense films, this may be a good one for you. I'm rating it good because it reflects the title very well.
A horror by Wes Craven and Alexandre Aja.A group of people gets stuck in a mountainous desert infested with mutants. These are the latest renditions of the Hills Have Eyes series. I may watch the older ones and review them later. These were mediocre at best. It was a gore-fest, but that doesn't impress me these days. I would have liked dynamic characters and an unpredictable plot a lot more. The style was decent. It conveyed that "alone in the desert and nobody's coming to help" vibe very well. Dare I compare 127 hours? Anyway, I'm rating this poor because I'm a hard-ass like that.
A horror directed by Alexandre Aja.A man gets a job as a security guard at a burned and haunted department store. The mirrors at the store kill people and want a person called Eseeker. The hero seemed like a total moron. He looked stupid and the way he acted and talked were stupid too. This guy goes to a bar to drink coffee!? There was a split second at the end when the hero is fighting the old woman in the basement where she puts her face close to his and sticks out her tongue. It really reminded me of a certain scene in Alien 3. The whole bit about the crazy girl who caused the problem was alright, but overall the movie wasn't very good. I'm rating it bad because I just didn't like it. (edited rating after seeing Mirrors 2)
