That Hamilton Woman A.K.A. Lady Hamilton, The Enchantress (1941)

An American drama directed and produced by Alexander Korda, starring Laurence Olivier.
A young gold-digger woman marries an older man for his money, but falls in love with a navy admiral.
Absolutely antiquated. I'm watching Korda films because they did some good work in the fantasy adventure genre, but not everything they made is as wonderful as Junglebook Sabu and The Thief of Baghdad. This is a prime example of that fact. I was working on swapping parts on my guitar for most of the duration because it did not hold my attention in the least. Everything was shot wonderfully, another Korda fact. This time consistent through all of their movies. Overall, dull. I rate this poor.

Sanders of the River (1935)

A British drama directed by Zoltan Korda and Produced by Alexander Korda.
A British military/government leader rules wisely over the tribes of Africa. When he is replaced, conflict occurs, but he returns. The main African chief says that he has learned much from this man.
Not so great. The plot was almost interesting, but the characters were severely lacking in depth. The video was decent at best. There were some compositing scenes and I don't know how they did that in 1935. The audio sucked donkey nards. The dialogue was really quiet and the soundtrack was not to my liking. More on that in a sec. The believability was absolutely zero. AS IF the African war song was in a Jew Hollywood style and ALL the Africans AND ANIMALS could understand Morse code? Oh my fucking god! It "buggers belief" to quote David Icke. On the plus side, Female Anatomy Points for this African dancer (picture). Overall, a piece of crap. Only watch this to mock it. I rate it bad.

Rembrandt (1936)

A British biographical drama directed and produced by Alexander Korda, starring Charles Laughton.
The turbulent later life of the artist, Rembrandt is shown. He goes through a few wives and has constant financial troubles.
This was boring. Although historically accurate, the plot had too many filler scenes and there was really only one character. He was a static character. It was actually shot quite well. Everything was clearly visible and it featured some decent editing. The audio had some dead air hiss and crackle, but the dialogue was clear and the soundtrack was appropriate. Overall, it's just plain old. I rate this poor. It could have earned a better rating with a plot that was written better.

The Lion Has Wings (1939)

A British war documentary by Alexander Korda.
The British response to Nazi Germany's actions in World War II is shown.
HORRIBLE! I lost interest around 15 minutes into this. The plot was simplistic and there were no actual characters. The black and white video was unstimulating to say the least. Even the close-ups of bullet making machines rubbed me the wrong way. The honky, midrange-biased audio was extremely annoying. In fact, there was nothing to like about this. I turned it off after half-watching, totally distracted around the 50 minute mark. I rate this shit and it IS shit. DO NOT WATCH!!!

The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933)

A British drama directed by Alexander Korda, starring Charles Laughton.
The king is always unhappy with his wives. He gets rid of them and then is pressured into marrying another.
This was really dull. The plot did not hold my attention and there were only two main characters. The video style was prehistoric, but the sound was actually not bad. A little quiet, but it didn't have pops, clicks or audio artifacts. The only thing worth noting is that the king always got angry and kicked the barber out as soon as shaving cream had been applied to his face. Overall, just not a good movie. I rate this bad.

The Thief of Bagdad (1940)

A British fantasy adventure directed by Michael Powell, Ludwig Berger, Tim Whelan, Alexander Korda, Zoltan Korda and William Cameron Menzies, starring Sabu.
A dethroned king and a young thief have adventures while saving the kingdom from a corrupt vizier and rescuing the princess.
The version of this film that I saw did NOT look like it was made in 1940. It was, however, the correct film starring Sabu. The video looked like it had been restored or augmented in some way because the colors were bright and the definition extremely clear in most scenes. The scenes that didn't look so great featured special effects like the flying horse or the genie. In these scenes, you can see the air around a character where they had been cut from a different shot and pasted onto another. The plot and characters were definitely interesting and the film had super-massive loads of style. The pacing was just about right because nothing seemed rushed or took overly long. I thought that the entertainment value was quite good because I like the fantasy genre in general. I'm rating it good and it's a keeper.
