The Mist (2007)

A science fiction directed by Frank Darabont, based on a book by Stephen King.
After a storm, a dense mist rolls into town. A large group of people inside a grocery store try to survive this disaster as it brings monsters and/or aliens.
This film gives the term "whisper-blast" new meaning. The video is awesome though.

You should watch this film if you have any interest in seeing CG monsters. There are a few different types in different shapes and sizes, but they all share the quality of being pretty cool.
I'd like to take a moment to discuss idiocy in fictional disasters. When disaster strikes in films or books, the characters' IQ scores suddenly drop. example: "these monsters are drawn to light, we better turn on the super-halogens and the LEDs now!" for fuck's sake! I'd like to see just ONE disaster film with smart people in it that do things right and use some common sense. I've also seen one too many nearly dead buddies dragged back to base camp in hopes that their innards can be stuffed back in, limbs reattached, and ultra-infectious diseases cured. Another disaster disaster is walking slowly in dangerous areas. "those monsters are out here, we better walk really slow so they can catch us easier!" or "I don't have time to pick up the flashlight dangling off my leg, slowing me down, and showing the monster EXACTLY where I am!" that's enough of that.
Anyway, watch this for the cool CG monsters, not the actions of our foolishly brave heroes.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

A drama written and directed by Frank Darabont.
This film tells the story of 2 men who meet in prison, both serving life sentences.
The audio was good and subtitles were included. The video had a glitch at the half way point, but otherwise, it was good.
check out: Morgan Freeman in jail (get it, FREE man?) and the old librarian keeping a crow as a pet in prison. I don't think that's allowed.
I'm getting pretty tired of Morgan Freeman by now. That old gravely voice is slowly driving me out of my head, as he would say. The plot and characters were pretty well done and I didn't mind watching this. However, it's nothing to put in green text. I'll say it's ok.

The Green Mile (1999)

A drama directed by Frank Darabont, adapted from a Stephen King novel
A man on death row has the power to perform miracles.
The audio was in whisper-blast fashion, but still good. The video was very clear with minimal CG.

When good plot and good characters come together like this, it makes something more than the sum of the parts. I liked the whole mouse sub-plot, but that isn't the only reason I'm rating this film so generously. I could shoot it down hard for the christian over-tones, but I liked it enough not to do that. Go ahead and call me a softy for liking a touching story like this. I don't care because I know a good movie when I see one and this is better than good. please watch it.
