I think what happened here is that Alex had already explained everything in his earlier films, but still wanted to make a movie. He said "Let's get this loose Change guy and make a film together. It should be double good, right?". Wrong. This is gilding the lily and repetition. Many other films have this same exact information and more. The presentation is fine and it's an alright conspiracy film, but there are already so many of those. I rate it poor for being a copy of a knock-off. A filmmaker and radio talk show host goes to Monte Rio, California in order to sneak inside a private club for rich politicians. While inside, he films a ritual called "The Cremation of Care".
The audio and video are of inferior quality because Mr. Jones did not want to be caught recording inside the club. The style is very, very strong and easy to identify as Alex's work. This is a very important film because it shows a secretive men-only club participating in occult rituals. These are the type of people who are the figureheads of countries and companies. The ones who decide financial and military matters of the entire world. Just think about that for a little while. I rate it awesome.

A mixed group of people travel to a plateau in the Amazon in search of dinosaurs and the father of one of their number.
Simple plot, small number of characters, stop-motion animation? Yes. This may be supremely old and a silent film, but it is still good. I like the prehistoric beasts being animated by a prehistoric special effect. I am extremely biased on the subject matter of this film. I grew up playing with dinosaur toys, have always watched dinosaur films and still have a collection of dinosaur memorabilia. However, they made one serious mistake by making the setting the Amazon in South America instead of the Congo in Africa. Everybody knows Mokele Mbembe lives in Africa! Other than that, great film and very entertaining for anyone who likes dinosaurs. Just skip the first few boring minutes until they get to the jungle. I rate it good.
This is my 1500th film review and I wouldn't choose another film in all the world to commemorate the occasion. There are better movies out there that are more shocking, artfully crafted and more important than this one, but part of me is still the little boy with a box full of dinosaur toys to play with.
A Swiss war film directed by Leopold Lindtberg.
A pair of soldiers escape from a battlefield in northern Europe where their regiment has been annihilated. They seek refuge in a small town where a priest is hiding other refugees who are also hiding from the Germans. When the German army draws near, all of the refugees and soldiers try to make it to a safe area before they can be caught.
This film was in 8 languages and the subtitles were absolutely the worst I have ever seen. The simple plot helped to render some of the dialogue superfluous and I was somehow able to follow the story. The characters were the shallowest I have ever seen, with no back-stories and no development. The editing was sloppy, there was no style and the pacing was slow. I have better things to do than rip apart crappy, old movies. I rate this bad. Don't watch it.
An American action adventure film directed by Allan Dwan, starring and narrated by Douglas Fairbanks.
The swashbuckling team of the 3 Musketeers is split up and twins are born to the French royal family. One of the twins is the heir to the throne and the other is exiled to live as a commoner. The rightful heir is then imprisoned and the other twin installed into royal power in his place. The Musketeers must reunite to sort out the problem with the twins and make sure that the right one is king.
I didn't like the last film that I watched in which Douglas Fairbanks had dialogue, but this is totally different. The action star narrates adventure quite well and the music is very fitting. The video looked about how video from 1929 would be expected to look, but there was some style in the a/v combo. The political part of the plot was a little hard for me to follow, but the copious amounts of action made up for this. I must say again that the narration was spot-on as Fairbanks described in an energetic voice, using eloquent words the action that was going on. I rate this adequate.
An American crime film directed by Charles Guggenheim and John Stix, starring Steve McQueen.
A young man falls in with some gangsters who are about to commit a bank robbery. He has planned to be the getaway driver and the robbery is to take place in his hometown, which is also the hometown of one of the other gangsters. The fellow rogue who shares the hometown is the brother of the main character's ex girlfriend. The ex is called upon to loan the gang some money until the robbery can be executed and when she sees her brother, things start to get difficult.
The pacing was extremely slow. Painfully so. The plot and characters were easy to follow, but failed to hold my interest. The audio and video were alright for black and white, but the style was generic and generally lacking interest. I really didn't like the movie and thought it was way too boring. I rate it bad.
An American crime drama directed by Ray McCarey, starring Victor McLaglen.
A gang of children grow up in New York City. One of them is caught setting fire to a warehouse as a child and gets into criminal activities as an adult. Some of his fellow gang members grow up to be police. When a man dies and it looks like murder, the police are called in and the gangster turns out to be involved.
The audio, video and style are very old-fashioned now, but were standard at the time this was made. This makes the film seem very dated. The plot and characters were mildly interesting and I was able to follow the story through the whole duration. Conflict involving cops and gangsters is generally overused and did not do anything to help this film stand out to me. Overall, it's an old movie about childhood friendships being broken by concerns in the adult world. I rate it poor.
