subspecies (1991)

a direct-to-video horror produced by full moon studios
3 scholarly girls show up in radu's country. he does his best to turn them to his side, but his plans are thwarted by his half-brother, stephan and the hotel owner.
the audio and video were fine. the lo-fi graininess of this film captures the setting of transylvania better than any fiber optic HD blue ray could dream of. the soundtrack is, for the most part, barely audible and comprised entirely of classical music. this combination would not be possible in this day and age of whisper-blast and alternative rock.
this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I have the series right now, so the others will shortly follow. if vampires were real (not the figurative blood suckers of the american government), this is what they would be like. none of that slick hollywood shiny leather jumpsuit shit. no super-models playing queens of the underworld. if you like glitzy vampires with gucci handbags riding japanese motorcycles, don't watch this. if you played castlevania: symphony of the night multiple times all the way through, this movie is for you. this is also for those who like the puppet master series. hmm... idea for what to watch!
