A drama directed by Philip Haas.A scientist who has spent the last few years in the Amazon rain forest loses all of his worldly belongings on the way home, except for 2 rare butterflies. He gives these to a rich wildlife collector and is hired to catalog the collection. The scientist falls in love with the rich man's daughter and marries her. Her brother is a pompous ass and treats the scientist with no respect. The scientist then works on a book with one of the female servants. When he finds the brother raping the servant, the scientist knows that all is not right in this family.The plot and characters were good and the style was decent. The pacing was slow as needed to show how the plot develops ever more clearly in the mind of the main character. The change that happens in this film is nothing to do with people changing what they do, but what they do being discovered by the outsider who is taken into their group. I'm rating this good.
A documentary directed by Chris Smith, starring Mark Borchardt.Mark Borchardt is working on a film called Northwestern and has to create a short film called Coven in order to fund the longer movie.This reminded me of FUBAR, but that was a joke and these people really are as annoying as they seem. Most of the film is Mark trying as hard as he can to get the film made, while the people around him half-ass their way through it. I understand him wanting a better life than the "work-go home-sleep-go to work" cycle that most people fall into.On a personal note, I'm going for a job interview on Wednesday and the hours of the job are 3PM to 1AM. If I get it, I won't be able to play music with anyone anymore. My life will become totally worthless to me. Obviously, I won't accept if they offer it to me, but there isn't much chance of that happening. I've been going to job interviews for over a year and haven't gotten hired. I used to try to get the job, but now I just go through the motions to make my parents think I'm seeking employment. What I'm saying is that I want the same type of thing that this guy wants.Anyway, the film was really annoying and I didn't see much point in it. I'm rating it bad.
A crime film directed by Edward James Olmos.A Mexican man starts the Mexican Mafia.This film is just over 2 hours long. There are a lot of violent gang activities shown and it is narrated by the main character. The style was alright, but the pacing was a little slow. I'm rating this adequate, ese.
A drama directed by Tony Kaye, starring Edward Furlong.A young man's racist father is killed by a black man and the son starts an neo-nazi gang. The younger brother idolizes his older sibling even after he kills 2 men and goes to jail. While in jail, the older brother changes his opinion on some matters and when he gets out, he is dismayed to find that his younger brother still holds the same view on these issues.This movie is absolutely epic. Some of it is told in flash-backs which are in black and white, while the present is in color. This movie includes Fairuza Balk as Derek's girlfriend, who I think is hot partially because she looks like my first girlfriend. The plot and characters are the main attraction here and the awesome style is just there to back them up. I'm rating this awesome.
An adventure by Kevin Costner.A white man occupies an abandoned fort and makes friends with the indians.The plot and characters were great. I liked the style and the pacing was nice and slow. I would give anything to be the first white man to visit an indian village. I'm rating this good.
A thriller directed by Carl Schultz, starring Demi Moore.Signs of the apocalypse begin to happen and a pregnant woman has a strange man move in above her garage.The style was actually not bad. The characters were stereotypical though and I have specific questions about the plot. In the film, we find that the Guf (where babies' souls come from) is empty. The woman gives her life to save her child and everyone acts like everything's going to be cool. My question is did she refill that empty Guf that started all of this? Maybe they just didn't explain it well enough. I'm rating this o.k. If you're into shred metal, check out the Yngwie Malmsteen album by the same name.
A fantasy by Larry Cohen, starring David Carradine.A dragon attacks New York City. A small time crook knows the location of the dragon's nest and a police detective is investigating ritual murders meant to summon the dragon.The plot and characters were so lame it hurt. A good actor like David Carradine should have never gotten involved in this crap. The style was horrible and the dragon looked really fake. I'm rating this bad because it's not worth watching.
